God Blesses Those in Limbe!

In the second week of January, Three Strand Cord board member Nancy Perry led a medical team to the CEDAN community in Limbe.  Daniel, a leader at CEDAN who suffers terribly from a very painful skin disorder, got his faithfulness repaid when the medical team was able to offer him much needed care.  On the team was Margaret Moran of Tampa.  About the trip, she writes:

We had a wonderful week with Henri and the CEDAN group.  The medical team of 21 had four days of clinic and saw close to 800 people.  One of the highlight for me was what we could do for Daniel.   As you know Daniel has been having trouble walking do to a growth on his inner thigh.  When we got to CEDAN  Sunday morning I could just see the pain in his face as he walked, but he did not say anything and was just pleased to see the team there and thanks us for coming to help the Haitian people.  Well, we were so lucky to has a surgeon with us on the trip.   Dan looked at him an schedule him to come back early one morning.

Two days later I was working in the pharmacy it was almost noon and we were very busy.  I filled a script and went to the door to hand it out.  There was Daniel standing there with the biggest smile on his face.  He was already walking so much better!

Also I got a first hand look at the water system and was very grateful it was there. ( by the way someone can by to check it while we were there )  Now all we need to do is work in the plumbing :)

I have a photo of the new motor bike [to be used by CEDAN].  It is just waiting on the registration paperwork.

We had such a wonderful time with the people at CEDAN.  The people want to have a better life there and are so willing to help with anything they can.  It just goes to show we can make a difference.  They are not asking for handouts just a jump start to get them going and growing.

Many thanks to 3Strand we can see the difference you are make there.

Update from Haiti re: Cholera

Great News from Haiti!! As we return from Thanksgiving Holiday, we have so much to be thankful for!!

A gracious, merciful and loving Lord who is always with His children in both celebrations and crisis!

The report from Haiti is good news -  all the children with Cholera have gone home and are doing much better.  They are weak but Pastor Henri is coordinating bringing them food and clean water.  Please continue to pray for the families.  They did lose one 12 year old girl – please continue to pray this family too!

I would like to thank all who responded in prayer and financial support!  It is awesome to see the body of believers respond so quickly!!  Thank you!! Thank  you!! Thank you!!  May the Lord grant you peace, mercy and joy during this holiday season as we celebrate the greatest gift we have been given, our Savior Jesus Christ!

God Bless,

Brent

Aid for Cholera

Today, we learned that a school under the umbrella of CEDAN's ministry has been hit very severly with a cholera outbreak.  Although this school had access to clean water through a ministry working in the area, they have still fallen victim.

As a community, Three Strand Cord is sending over $3,000 to provide IVs and medical treatment for the children and students affected.

Here is more information from the ministry working closest to this school:  http://www.internationalministries.org/read/40193-cholera-strikes-emmaus-school

Thank you for your gifts and prayers.

An Oasis Video

Jim Webb and Ali have made a great video summarizing the Oasis Project.  Share it with your friends and let them know what the Lord is doing in Limbe!

Water is flowing at CEDAN!

This weekend, board member Brent Wertz and South Tampa Fellowship missions pastor Kelly Green will be in Limbe to dedicate the water machine installed by Water Missions International.

In Haiti, even before 2010's devastating earthquake, less than half the population had access to clean drinking water, a number that the US State Department notes is poor even in comparison to other less-developed nations.   Unclean drinking water can lead to a number of diseases which account for over 1.5 million deaths worldwide each year (CDC).   Haiti suffered this year from a cholera epidemic, a water-borne disease that left over 6,000 dead (NY Times).

But in this Oasis Community, water no longer needs to be a worry.  Rather, they can drink of the love that God has provided.   The water machine installed by Water Mission International, the Living Water Treatment System, is designed to treat 10 gallons (38 liters) of water per minute from raw water sources such as rivers, lakes, springs, ponds, or wells providing the daily water needs (3-4 gallons per person) of between 150-200 people each hour the system operates.  Powered by solar panels, this system is designed to operate for many years.

As the water machine gets dedicated, Three Strand Cord wants to thank you for all of your gifts of treasure and time in prayer toward this goal.  Thanks also to Kelly Green Evangelical Association who made the installation possible!

We know that the Lord has big things in mind using this water machine to enable those in the CEDAN community to live life abudantly and draw many unto Him!

Check back for updates, videos and photos from the dedication to be held on Sunday!

In other parts of Haiti, Three Stand Cord makes a life saving connection!

On Tuesday, we received an email from Garden of Grace Ministries explaining that in the community in which they work, Belle Fontaine 3 (BF3), there had been a cholera outbreak claiming the life of one student in the local school.

Upon receipt, board member Scott Findorff emailed Pastor Norma of Garden of Grace to let her know about Medical Teams International, a partner identified during the recent trip to Haiti.  We have received word the MTI will go to BF3 and provide the following:
  • As many containers as are needed to provide the residents of BF3 storage for clean water for drinking, cooking, etc.,
  • Chlorien tabs for water purfication for every household in BF3,
  • Oral rehydration salts to counteract the effects of the onset of cholera, and
  • In partnership with Doctors Without Borders, they will facilitate care of any future cholera patients.
One needn't wonder about the devastation that cholera can inflict.  However, as the body of Christ works together, one community is finding renewed hope.  In fact, Pastor Norma writes that "to write that I now feel relieved after yesterday's devastating news is an understatement....these are trying times, but together we are making a difference in Haiti."

Thank you for your continued prayers!  God is on the move in Haiti!

Final Post from Haiti!

(adapted from a series of texts from Scott Findorff)

Our trip has been a huge blessing! Brent and I have are truly overwhelmed.   We have been blessed with some great potential partnerships with Medical Teams International, Water Missions International, and Double Harvest

Also, the satellite communication system will be finished in this week!!

And on and on and on!

Thank everyone for their prayers bathing the trip!!  And we hope to continue to have them as we put even more of God's plans to work.
